Tension Rises in ODM as Details Emerge About Who Raila Wanted to Endorse Ahead of 2027

The political landscape is once again heating up following a fresh wave of declarations from businessman Oketch Salah, who insists that the late Raila Odinga had a clear plan to endorse President William Ruto for a second term in office.

Speaking on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Salah stood his ground despite growing criticism from the Odinga family, particularly from Kisumu Women Representative Ruth Odinga .

In a detailed rejoinder, Salah emphasized that his relationship with the late opposition chief was deeply personal and not subject to family approval.

"Baba was clear to me that he intended to endorse President William Samoei Ruto for a second term. I am duty-bound to speak honestly about what he told me, without fear, without distortion and without seeking permission from anyone," he stated .

The remarks have added fuel to an already tense succession debate within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the wider Azimio coalition.

Salah did not stop at the endorsement claims. He took direct aim at Ruth Odinga, cautioning her against publicly fighting her elder brother and current ODM party leader, Dr. Oburu Odinga.

According to Salah, such infighting weakens the party and betrays the foundation that Raila built over two decades.

"You should stop fighting your elder brother... If you allow your elder brother to be put on the chopping board today, do not be surprised if tomorrow it is your turn," he warned .

Interestingly, Salah also revealed that he personally facilitated Ruth Odinga's travel to India to see her brother before he passed away, a gesture he now feels is being overlooked in the ongoing political theatrics .

His comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some defending his right to speak and others accusing him of seeking relevance.

Meanwhile, the debate over economic empowerment continues to dominate public discourse.

A recent post on the K24 TV Facebook page highlighted a sharp exchange regarding the Nyota Fund, where a user identified as Amemba Magufuli questioned the adequacy of the KSh 50,000 given to youths, asking whether it was enough to start any meaningful business in today's economy .

The post, which carries the hashtag #K24Siasa, drew hundreds of comments, with some defending the initiative while others called for more substantive support for young entrepreneurs.

As the political temperatures rise ahead of 2027, the intersection of legacy, loyalty, and livelihood remains a recurring theme in the national conversation.

Whether Salah's revelations will shift the political calculus or further isolate him from the Odinga inner circle is a question only time will answer.
