"Stop ‘Brainless’ Political Attacks and Focus on Governance" Matiang’i Heckles Ruto Amid This Crisis

Presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i has launched a sharp attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of repeatedly targeting the opposition instead of focusing on governance.

Speaking during a public engagement, Matiang’i described the President’s alleged constant attacks on opposition leaders as “brainless,” arguing that such rhetoric undermines democratic principles and distracts from the real challenges facing Kenyans.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary said the country needs issue-based leadership that prioritizes economic recovery, job creation, and national unity, rather than political confrontations.

According to Matiang’i, persistent attacks on the opposition signal intolerance to dissent and weaken democratic institutions.

“Leadership is about listening, building consensus, and delivering for the people—not engaging in endless political fights,” he remarked.

Matiang’i’s comments come amid heightened political temperatures as early maneuvering for the next general election begins to take shape.

His remarks are likely to further intensify debate over the government’s handling of opposition voices and political criticism.

Supporters of the President, however, have previously dismissed similar accusations, insisting that the administration remains focused on implementing its development agenda.

Matiang’i has increasingly positioned himself as a vocal critic of the current administration, with analysts viewing his recent statements as part of a broader effort to consolidate support ahead of a possible presidential bid.
