Something Cooking? 2027 DP Race Heats Up After Joho–Ruto Campaign Truck Spotted in Coast

A truck branded with campaign messages suggesting that Hassan Ali Joho could run for deputy president alongside William Ruto in the 2027 General Election has sparked fresh political debate across the country.

The truck, which was reportedly seen moving in parts of the Coast region, carried images of President Ruto and Hassan Joho with campaign-style colours and slogans linked to the 2027 race.

Photos of the vehicle quickly spread on social media, with many Kenyans questioning whether this signals an early political agreement between the two leaders.

As of now, there has been no official announcement from President Ruto or Hassan Joho confirming a joint presidential ticket for 2027.

Political observers say the branding on the truck may reflect early grassroots mobilisation or support from enthusiastic backers rather than a confirmed political deal.

Hassan Joho, who currently serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, has in recent months shown strong support for President Ruto’s administration.

This marks a major political shift, as Joho was previously a key opposition figure and a close ally of former President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

During several public events in the Coast region, Joho has urged residents to support President Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

However, he has also hinted at having his own presidential ambitions in the future, particularly in 2032. He has not publicly declared interest in the deputy president position.

Political analysts note that it is still early in the 2027 election cycle. In Kenya, running mates are usually announced closer to the election period after political negotiations and party consultations.

For now, the truck branding appears to be part of early campaign excitement rather than an official declaration.

The sighting has nonetheless intensified conversations about possible political realignments ahead of 2027. The Coast region remains an important voting bloc, and leaders from the area are expected to play a key role in shaping national politics.
