Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has declared that his main political mission ahead of the 2027 General Election is to ensure President William Ruto is defeated by a margin of at least five million votes.
The outspoken lawmaker said the target is not just about winning the presidency but about sending a strong political message to the current administration.
Speaking during a recent media interview, Sifuna argued that such a decisive victory would demonstrate that Kenyans are dissatisfied with the direction the country has taken.
He stated that a wide margin would serve as a lesson and set a precedent for future leaders. According to him, the opposition must show unity and determination if it hopes to secure victory in the next election.
Sifuna, who serves as the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement, has been vocal about the need for a stronger and more coordinated opposition strategy.
He noted that internal divisions and fragmented political movements could weaken the chances of unseating the incumbent.
He maintained that the focus should remain on building a solid coalition capable of mobilising voters across the country.
The senator also addressed concerns about emerging political movements within the opposition.
He reassured supporters that these initiatives are not meant to divide the opposition but to strengthen grassroots engagement and voter awareness. He emphasised that all efforts will eventually align under a broader coalition framework.
Sifuna called on leaders within the United Opposition to prioritise unity and avoid actions that could split the vote. He acknowledged that President Ruto is an experienced and strategic politician, adding that defeating him will require careful planning and collective effort.
As political temperatures slowly begin to rise ahead of 2027, Sifuna’s remarks are expected to spark debate within both government and opposition circles about the path the country will take in the next electoral cycle.
