Grief and anger filled Kavote village in Kirinyaga County as family, friends and colleagues gathered to bury Andrew Nyaga, a senior staff member at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital whose life was cut short by brutal criminals.
Nyaga, who served as deputy manager in the catering department at the hospital, disappeared on February 2, 2026, after leaving his rental home in Gatongora, Ruiru, to meet someone he was believed to know.
The following day, his body was found dumped by the roadside near Sagana in Kirinyaga County.
His car was later recovered abandoned in Thika.
A postmortem revealed severe injuries, including a broken skull and a deep cut to one ear, pointing to extreme cruelty.
Nyaga was on sick leave at the time and recovering from a leg injury.
The family searched for him for days, unaware that his body had already been taken to Muranga Hospital mortuary.
His sister Grace Wanjiru later disclosed that after he was abducted, the kidnappers sent ransom messages demanding Sh150,000.
She said they later realised it was a cruel mockery because the abductors had already killed him while pretending he was still alive.
Nyaga’s wife, Edith Muringo, said she grew worried after he failed to return home and reported his disappearance to police the same evening.
At the burial, speakers described Nyaga as humble, kind and generous.
His family has appealed to police to speed up investigations and ensure justice is served.
