Nyali Member of Parliament, Mohamed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, has dismissed rumors that he will run for Mombasa Governor on a DCP Party ticket.
The confusion started after DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua introduced Ali at a church service at PCEA Zimmerman in Nairobi.
During the event, Gachagua told the congregation that Ali would be his candidate for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat. He even joked that although Ali is Muslim, he would get support from Christian voters to ensure success.
Mohamed Ali quickly clarified that Gachagua’s statement was only about support, not party membership. “Rigathi Gachagua said he will support my candidature.
That is the truth of the matter. What is so difficult to understand?” Ali said in a social media post, responding to journalists who had misreported the story.
Currently, Ali is serving his second term as Nyali MP. He is well known for being outspoken and has often criticized what he calls mismanagement of taxpayers’ money in Mombasa County.
One of his recent actions was filing a petition against a Ksh17 billion waste management project by the Mombasa County Government.
The rumors of Ali joining DCP come at a time when he has had disagreements with his current party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). In April 2025, Ali suggested that he could be denied the UDA ticket for the 2027 general elections.
At that time, he said he was willing to leave the party, join another, or even run as an independent candidate. Despite these tensions, he is still officially a member of UDA, the party under which he first won the Nyali seat.
The church event that sparked the confusion also included other political leaders who are critical of the current Kenya Kwanza government. Among them were James Mathenge Kanini, Onesmus Ngogoyo, and Mwafrika Kamande.
Ali’s statement has now cleared the air, showing that while he may receive support from leaders like Gachagua, he has not officially joined DCP.
He remains focused on his parliamentary duties and preparations for the next election, though he is keeping his options open for the future.
