The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has removed Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi from its National Executive Committee (NEC), a move that has stirred fresh debate within the party.
Amisi confirmed the development on Wednesday, February 11, during a radio interview after reports about his removal began circulating on social media.
He revealed that he had received a formal letter informing him that he was no longer a member of the committee.
According to the MP, the party explained that his removal was due to holding two positions at the same time.
The NEC stated that Amisi was serving both as a county chairperson and as the party’s Deputy Organising Secretary, which they said goes against the ODM constitution.
Despite the explanation, Amisi questioned the process used to remove him.
He argued that the decision did not follow the proper procedure required by the party’s rules.
He said that before any NEC member is removed, the committee is supposed to meet, discuss the matter, and either agree unanimously or vote on the decision.
The legislator also noted that a member facing removal should be given a chance to respond to the accusations before any action is taken.
He claimed that he was not invited to any meeting or hearing and only learned about the decision through the letter.
Amisi further explained that he took up the Deputy Organising Secretary position after he was requested to fill the role when it became vacant.
At that time, he was already serving as a county chairperson, and he maintained that the party leadership was aware of this arrangement and had approved it.
He therefore questioned why the issue was being raised now, suggesting that the move may be linked to internal disagreements within the party.
The development comes at a time when ODM is preparing for a key NEC meeting expected to take place in Mombasa.
The meeting is likely to focus on the party’s future plans, leadership structure, and possible changes aimed at strengthening its operations.
Political observers believe the decision reflects ongoing realignments within the party as leaders position themselves ahead of future political contests.
Others say the upcoming meeting will be important in addressing internal tensions and restoring unity.
Amisi’s removal highlights the growing internal debates within ODM and signals a period of adjustment as the party works to reorganize its leadership and strategy moving forward.
