NEWS IN; Edwin Sifuna Ousted as ODM Secretary General In Major Leadership Change, Senior Party Leaders Confirms

A major leadership change has hit the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after the party removed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from his position as Secretary General.

The decision was made by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) during a meeting held on Wednesday, February 11.

In a statement released after the meeting, the council said the move followed concerns about discipline and leadership conduct within the party.

According to the NEC, ODM is guided by its constitution and expects all leaders to respect party structures, follow collective decisions, and uphold unity.

After reviewing matters related to Sifuna’s conduct, the council resolved to remove him from office with immediate effect.

Party insiders revealed that the leadership had been discussing internal disagreements for some time.

The removal is seen as part of a wider effort to restore order and strengthen discipline at the top level of the party.

Following the decision, Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omayo has stepped in to take over the role.

She had been serving as the Deputy Secretary General and will now handle the responsibilities as the party reorganizes its leadership.

Political observers noted that there were early signs of trouble before the announcement.

Sifuna did not attend the NEC meeting where the decision was made. Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi was also absent, a situation that raised questions about internal divisions within the party.

Sifuna has been one of ODM’s most outspoken leaders and a strong voice for the party in public forums.

His removal is therefore expected to attract mixed reactions, especially among his supporters in Nairobi and other regions.

Analysts say the decision reflects the party’s efforts to manage internal differences and align its leadership with its current political direction.

Others believe it is part of a broader restructuring as political parties begin to prepare for future political battles.

By the time of publishing, Sifuna had not issued an official response regarding his removal.

The development comes at a time when political parties across the country are making strategic changes to strengthen their structures.

Many are now watching closely to see how the decision will affect ODM’s unity, public image, and future plans.
