Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka raised serious concerns about interference in opposition politics, alleging that State House directed the Government Printer to prevent the publication of recent leadership changes in the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition in the Kenya Gazette.
According to Musyoka, the changes approv7ed by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties include his appointment as Party Leader, Caroli Omondi as Secretary General, and Philip Kisia as Executive Director.
These were published in local dailies last week, with gazettement expected on February 6. He described the alleged block as an arbitrary move that undermines multiparty democracy.
Musyoka pointed out the irony, noting that he co-chaired National Dialogue Committee discussions on fidelity to multiparty laws.
He accused the administration of using state machinery to weaken opposition coalitions rather than competing fairly on policy and performance.
He vowed to pursue legal remedies to secure the gazettement, warning that such actions threaten democratic principles beyond AZIMIO.
The controversy stems from internal AZIMIO shifts following Raila Odinga's passing.
A meeting reportedly chaired by former President Uhuru Kenyatta led to these appointments, aimed at revitalizing the coalition amid evolving political dynamics.
However, the changes have faced pushback, including from ODM, which disputed their validity and claimed procedural breaches of the coalition agreement.
Reactions on social media and in media reports vary, with some viewing the alleged interference as evidence of broader efforts to sideline opposition voices, while others question the legitimacy of the reshuffle itself.
Musyoka urged Kenyans to stay informed, emphasizing that protecting democratic institutions benefits the entire nation.
