"Hata Afadhali Ningezaliwa Mkikuyu: CS Mbadi’s Viral Message on Unity and Land

In a move that has sent shockwaves through social media, Finance Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi made a startling confession during a public gathering, stating that he would have loved to be born into the Kikuyu community.

This wasn't a statement of tribal preference, but rather a profound observation on the advantages of geography and resources.

Mbadi pointed out that the community in the central region enjoys better land and a much closer proximity to the economic hub of Nairobi compared to those in the Lake Victoria region.

He noted that while someone from his home region has to endure a long and often difficult journey to reach the capital, those living in the surrounding areas of Nairobi have a natural market and logistical edge that is enviable in the world of business.

Mbadi used this personal reflection to dismantle the foundations of tribal pride and prejudice.

He argued that no one chooses their parents or the tribe they are born into, making it irrational to be arrogant about an ethnic identity to which an individual contributed zero effort.

His message was centered on the idea that every tribe in Kenya is interdependent.

Nairobi, for instance, cannot survive without the food supplied by the surrounding communities, and those communities cannot thrive without the market and tax infrastructure provided by the city.

This symbiotic relationship is the true backbone of the nation, yet it is often threatened by divisive politics that put tribalism ahead of national development.

The Cabinet Secretary also shared his personal struggle with the loss of his parents, who he credits for his existence despite the randomness of birth.

He urged Kenyans to stop investing so much emotion into the "us versus them" narrative that often peaks during election cycles.

Mbadi emphasized that as the Minister for Finance, he does not serve a specific tribe but rather the entire Kenyan populace. Whether a person is Luo, Kikuyu, or Turkana, his responsibility is to ensure that the economy works for everyone.

By humanizing the office of the Finance Minister and admitting to his own admiration for the unique characteristics of different tribes, Mbadi is attempting to foster a new culture of objective criticism and mutual respect that transcends the old ethnic boundaries.
