HAPPENING NOW as Sifuna Forced To Abruptly End His 'Linda Mwananchi' Rally in Kitengela After Teargas Is Lobbed

Tension gripped Kitengela on Sunday afternoon after a political rally branded “Linda Mwananchi” ended abruptly when police lobbed teargas at the crowd.

The rally, which had attracted hundreds of supporters, was part of a wider political mobilization tour linked to Edwin Sifuna and his allies within the Orange Democratic Movement.

Supporters had gathered early at the venue, waving party flags and chanting slogans. The mood was energetic as leaders addressed the crowd, criticizing the current government and calling for unity among opposition supporters.

Among those present were prominent politicians including Babu Owino and James Orengo, who spoke about economic hardships and the rising cost of living.

However, the rally was cut short when police officers moved in and fired teargas canisters into the crowd. Thick smoke quickly filled the air, forcing people to run in different directions for safety.

Some supporters were seen covering their faces with cloths, while others sought shelter in nearby shops and buildings.

Witnesses said the disruption happened shortly after leaders intensified their criticism of President William Ruto and his administration.

It was not immediately clear what triggered the police action. By late afternoon, authorities had not released an official statement explaining why the rally was dispersed.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about political freedoms and public gatherings in Kajiado County. Supporters of the rally organizers claimed the move was meant to silence opposition voices.

On the other hand, some residents expressed worries about possible chaos and disruption of businesses during large political events.

Despite the confusion, there were no immediate reports of serious injuries. Several people complained of breathing difficulties due to the teargas, but many managed to leave the area safely.

The “Linda Mwananchi” tour has been described by its organizers as a campaign to listen to ordinary citizens and defend their rights. Sunday’s events in Kitengela may add more tension to the already heated political environment in the country.
