New polling data suggests that political dynamics in the Mt. Kenya region, particularly in Othaya Constituency, may be shifting as the country gradually looks ahead to the 2027 General Election.
According to tracking results released by Mizani Africa, the Democratic Citizens Party, which is closely linked to Rigathi Gachagua, currently leads in Othaya with 38.7 percent support. President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance follows with 32.0 percent.
The survey also shows that 21.8 percent of respondents remain undecided. Jubilee Party registers 6.7 percent support, while other parties account for 0.8 percent.
The figures point to a competitive two-party contest in the constituency, a notable shift from the political alignment seen in 2022.
The Democratic Citizens Party’s lead suggests growing influence for Gachagua within his home region and indicates that his political messaging may be resonating with a section of the electorate seeking an alternative platform.
Despite trailing in the poll, UDA retains a significant support base at 32.0 percent, underscoring that President Ruto continues to command loyalty in the region. Analysts note that this level of backing keeps the ruling party firmly in contention.
The data also highlights the sharp decline of Jubilee Party, which once dominated Mt. Kenya politics under former President Uhuru Kenyatta but now ranks a distant third in the constituency.
The most decisive bloc may be the 21.8 percent of undecided voters. With nearly a quarter of respondents yet to commit, both DCP and UDA are likely to intensify efforts to win over this group as political competition in the region escalates.
