Royal Media Services recently implemented a major shake up at Hot96 FM, signaling a strategic shift in its radio broadcasting strategy.
The media house opted to reorganize its top tier talent in an effort to refresh the station's appeal and diversify its listener base.
This transition saw the departure of veteran journalists Jeff Koinange and Patrick Igunza from their long held morning show, a slot they had dominated for years.
The reorganization became official on Monday, February 9, when the company announced that Nick Odhiambo and Cynthia Mwangi would take over the breakfast show.
In a direct swap of roles, Koinange and Igunza moved to the evening drive show at the same station.
This realignment placed the two seasoned broadcasters in the critical sunset hours, where they are now expected to capture the attention of commuters and evening audiences.
Fred Afune, the Director of Radio and ICT at Royal Media Services, confirmed the immediate implementation of these changes.
He explained that the decision to move established legends to different time slots was a deliberate move to challenge the presenters.
By shifting a morning icon to the evening, the management intended to expose the audience to a different side of their favorite stars while revitalizing the station’s creative energy.
The move marks a significant departure from the previous programming structure that relied on the established chemistry of the morning duo.
While the station previously enjoyed a stable morning audience, the new layout forces a transition where new voices must prove their worth in the early hours.
This reshuffle reflects the company's proactive approach to staying relevant in a highly competitive media landscape by disrupting traditional habits and introducing a fresh broadcasting rhythm.
