Kenya Power Announces Scheduled Outages in Nyeri and Embu Counties

Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions affecting parts of Nyeri and Embu counties on Monday, January 19.

In a notice issued on Sunday, January 18, the power utility said the outages are necessary to facilitate routine network maintenance works aimed at improving service reliability.
Nyeri County

In Nyeri County, the power interruption will occur between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in several areas.

Affected locations include Muruguru, Kiamuiru and Githiru, where customers in Muruguru Secondary School, Muruguru Market, SDA Muruguru, Satima Millers, Gikunju Maternity, Mugwathi Hotel, and surrounding areas will be without electricity.

The outage will also affect parts of Ihururu, Mathari Hospital and Njoguini, including Mwenji, Nyamakuyu, Ngoru, Njoguini, Jua Kali, Miagayuini, Kanyinya, Muhoya, Thatha, Nyeri Hill and the VOK Booster area.

Other affected areas include Kanjora, Kimathi Secondary School, Burton, Mathari Hospital, Caritus, Kamwenja Teachers College, Mathari Shopping Centre and Nyeri High School, along with adjacent customers.
Embu County

Parts of Embu County will also experience power interruptions from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the same day.

The affected areas include Rukuriri, Kyeni Hospital and Mufu, covering Makutano Market, Kiaragana Primary School, Hon Karemba area, Kanja Market, Mary Goretti Girls, Mufu Market, Kathageri Market and Kigumo Market.

Other locations include Mukuuri Market, Mbuinjeru Market, Kiaganari Girls, Kegonge Boys, Mikundu near Kathunguri Market, Njeruri Market, Iriari Market, Kariru Secondary School and Gitare Secondary School, as well as surrounding customers.
Kenya Power Advisory

The announcement comes weeks after Kenya Power issued a customer alert reminding the public that its teams operate 24 hours a day to address power outages and conduct inspections.

In the notice issued on December 24, the utility advised customers to allow its staff access to electricity installations, meters and cables located within their premises at any time.

Kenya Power further emphasized that all employees must display official company identification cards bearing staff and national ID numbers. 

Customers were also encouraged to verify staff credentials by dialing *977#, selecting the Jua for Sure option, and following the prompts.
