CS Rebecca Miano: 2025 Jamhuri Day Theme Signals New Era in Kenya’s Tourism Strategy

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has announced that this year’s Jamhuri Day theme marks a strategic shift in Kenya’s approach to tourism, conservation, and the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector.

Speaking during a sector roundtable with President William Ruto, Miano said the decision to anchor the national holiday on Tourism, Wildlife, and MICE reflects more than symbolism—it is a deliberate strategy to showcase Kenya’s growing potential in the global tourism market.

“Kenya has made remarkable progress in tourism, conservation, and MICE over recent years, as highlighted in this year’s Jamhuri Day theme,” Miano said.

The CS emphasised that national holidays, such as Jamhuri Day, offer a unique platform to highlight the country’s cultural identity while attracting both domestic and international investment.

“By centering the 2025 Jamhuri celebrations on Tourism, Wildlife, and MICE, the government is transforming a day of historical reflection into a powerful economic and cultural catalyst,” she added.

Miano praised President Ruto’s direct involvement in driving tourism reforms, saying his support has been instrumental in boosting international arrivals and diversifying visitor experiences.

She reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive sector growth, promising continued collaboration with stakeholders to maintain Kenya’s upward trajectory in tourism.

During the roundtable, industry leaders discussed progress in the sector and explored ways to expand tourism offerings, strengthen conservation efforts, and leverage event-driven economic opportunities.

Miano noted that aligning Jamhuri Day with these priorities not only amplifies Kenya’s global tourism profile but also fosters national pride and economic development.

“Through strategic coordination, shared purpose, and a renewed sense of commitment, we aim to ensure that Kenya continues to grow as a premier tourism destination,” Miano said.

The 2025 Jamhuri Day celebrations, therefore, signal a new phase in Kenya’s tourism strategy, integrating culture, conservation, and events to drive economic growth and attract investment, while reinforcing the country’s global tourism brand.
