Millie Odhiambo Urges ODM to Stop Searching for ‘Another Raila’, Says Leadership Will Emerge Natural

Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has called on ODM members and supporters to stop trying to identify a replica of Raila Odinga within the party, insisting that such comparisons are unnecessary and unrealistic.

The outspoken legislator said that constantly searching for a “Baba” in every leader only creates confusion and pressure that may hinder the party’s growth.

According to Odhiambo, Raila Odinga, fondly known as “Baba,” is a unique figure whose influence, history, and political journey cannot be duplicated.

She explained that ODM should focus on nurturing a new generation of leaders who bring their own strengths instead of attempting to mirror Raila’s leadership style.

"The mistake we are making is looking for a ‘Baba’ in each of us".

"You will never find one, leadership will reveal itself in its own time", she said.

Her remarks come at a time when discussions about the party’s future direction have intensified, especially as the 2027 elections draw nearer.

With Raila expected to play a different role both nationally and internationally, ODM is increasingly debating who will drive the party forward.

Odhiambo emphasised that true leadership is not manufactured but naturally rises from commitment, service, and the voice of the people.

She encouraged party members to give space for new leaders to grow and prove themselves without being overshadowed by unrealistic comparisons.

Political analysts say her comments reflect a growing sentiment within ODM that the party must evolve while still honouring Raila’s legacy.

Supporters have welcomed the statement as a reminder that ODM’s strength lies not only in its past but also in its ability to adapt and produce fresh, dynamic leaders for the future.
