The leader of the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF), Kalonzo Musyoka, has once again shown that he is ready to run for president in 2027.
This come after beginning formal steps to build his political brand move being interpreted as a clear indication of preparations for his presidential campaign as he seeks to strengthen his position within the opposition coalition searching for a single candidate to face President William Ruto.
The registration of the brand shows that Kalonzo has started laying the political and strategic groundwork for his campaign while opposition leaders continue discussions over who will fly the coalition’s flag in 2027.
Political analysts say Kalonzo’s role in opposition politics remains significant, but his future prospects will largely depend on the decisions made by Rigathi Gachagua.
Professor David Monda said Kalonzo could be the best option for the opposition if other leaders unite behind him.
However, he noted that many young voters expected to make up a large portion of the electorate in 2027 may prefer new leaders rather than the older generation of politicians.
Professor Masibo Lumala said Kalonzo’s chances could improve if Gachagua is not cleared to run due to his legal challenges following his removal from office.
“If Gachagua is allowed to run, the political situation will change completely. But if he remains out of the race, Kalonzo could become the face that unites the opposition,” Lumala said.
