Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has recounted a surprising incident concerning COTU boss Secretary General after their 2022 win.
Gachagua says after President William Ruto's win, he never expected to see Atwoli, who was against them during the campaigns, with the President.
However, he has stated that he was later shocked to meet the same person in State House shortly after they won and took over the government.
He has recalled bumping into a jovial Atwoli dancing in the State House corridor during one event, which resulted in him confronting the President.
“I could not believe it when I found him at State House when we went in. He was there laughing and dancing in the corridor," he said on Tuesday.
He added that upon seeking answers from Ruto, he was informed that Atwoli had been brought by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
“He laughed sheepishly and told me, ‘Rigathi, you don’t seem to understand this country. Every man has a price,’” Gachagua recalled.
The DCP leader claimed that Atwoli's shifting positions are because he is after his own gain and is not fighting for workers as he's claiming.
In the run up to the election, Atwoli had been a supporter of the rival side led by former Prime Minister, the late Raila Odinga.
He repeatedly predicted that Ruto would lose, at one point joking that his villagers should cut down trees in case he decides to commit suicide upon defeat.
The trade unionist, however, quickly jumped ship soon after Ruto was declared winner.
