Another Blow to President William Ruto as he looses Some of his Allies in UDA to DCP

In a significant political setback for President William Ruto and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Kandara Member of Parliament Hon. Chege Njuguna has officially defected from the party and joined the Democratic Congress Party (DCP)

The move, announced amid growing discontent in Mt. Kenya region, comes shortly after Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata also distanced himself from UDA.
Njuguna, who took over the Kandara seat after Alice Wahome’s appointment to the Cabinet in 2022, is expected to host former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the constituency on Wednesday, signaling closer alignment with the DCP camp.

Political analysts view the defection as another indicator of eroding support for UDA in key Central Kenya strongholds.

The region played a pivotal role in Ruto’s 2022 victory, but recent policy disagreements, economic hardships, and perceived marginalization have fueled realignments.

DCP, associated with Gachagua’s influence, appears to be gaining traction as an alternative voice.e1b99f

Njuguna’s exit adds to a string of high-profile departures that have rattled the ruling coalition ahead of future electoral battles.

As UDA grapples with these losses, questions linger about its ability to maintain cohesion in the Mount Kenya vote bloc. Observers anticipate more shifts as political realignments intensify.
