A university student from Kisumu is at the centre of a tragic case that has raised serious questions after he was later found dead in River Nyamasaria under unclear circumstances.
Fidel Dennis, a final-year aerospace engineering student at Kenyatta University, was last seen alive in the company of several people, including his friend Odhiambo.
CCTV footage reviewed by investigators later revealed troubling events leading up to his disappearance.
According to reports, Fidel appeared heavily intoxicated as the night progressed.
Odhiambo is seen in the footage repeatedly striking him while the group moved around a club parking area.
In some sections of the recording, visibility was blocked, suggesting the assault may have continued out of camera view.
At different points during the night, Fidel was moved in and out of the club.
Witness accounts and footage show him struggling to walk, at times being restrained from re entering the premises and appearing confused and disoriented.
Despite efforts by members of the group to control him, the situation escalated further.
Additional individuals were seen joining in physical confrontations, and Fidel was later left outside the club alone around 1.50 am without any assistance.
Roughly an hour later, the same group was seen searching for him but failed to locate him.
By 3.10 am, the vehicle they had used left the area without him. That was the last confirmed sighting of Fidel alive.
His body was later recovered from River Nyamasaria, sparking a murder investigation.
A postmortem conducted by independent pathologists found that he died from traumatic asphyxia.
Medical experts noted the absence of water in his lungs, ruling out drowning and instead pointing to severe external force and multiple injuries.
Fidel’s father, Edward Ofuong’o, said his son had a promising future and was weeks away from completing his studies.
He continues to demand a full investigation, saying the family still lacks clear answers on what happened that night.
Police have recommended further inquiry into the death as investigations continue.
