Political pressure is slowly changing the tone inside ODM as the Linda Mwananchi group, linked to Edwin Sifuna, begins to soften its position on working with the rival Linda Ground side.
However, this possible reunion is not coming easily, as the group has set clear conditions that must be met first.
The discussion has created fresh tension within the party. Leaders from the Linda Mwananchi side believe that unity cannot happen unless there are serious changes
how the party is being run. Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has made it clear that new internal elections are the starting point.
According to him and others in the group, giving members a fair chance to choose leaders again is the only way to rebuild trust.
Many in the faction feel that the current leadership has stayed in control for too long without proper accountability.
They argue that some top figures have become a problem instead of a solution. One name that keeps coming up is Oburu Oginga.
Some leaders believe that his continued stay in office is causing division and blocking progress. They feel that if he steps aside, it could open the door for healing and a fresh beginning within the party.
At the same time, other senior leaders like Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o and Siaya Governor James Orengo are playing key roles in the ongoing talks.
Orengo, in particular, is gaining more support from those calling for change. Many see him as someone who supports fairness and wants the party to listen more to ordinary members.
The Linda Mwananchi team has also claimed that it now has support in at least 30 counties. This has added more weight to their demands and increased talk about the future of ODM as the 2027 elections draw closer.
Their main message is simple: the party must return to fair and open leadership if it wants to stay strong.
On the other hand, the Linda Ground group is standing firm. They believe that keeping the current leadership is important for stability, especially during this sensitive political period.
With both sides holding their ground, the situation inside ODM remains tense. Many observers believe that how this conflict is handled could greatly affect the party’s future and its position in the next election.
