Serve Jail Term – MP Kaluma’s Harsh Call on Former President Uhuru

In a no holds barred post on X that has sent ripples across Kenya’s political landscape, Member of Parliament Hon. George Peter Kaluma has delivered a scathing verdict on former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s economic legacy.

According to Kaluma Uhuru should be behind bars for presiding over the collapse of the economy through massive borrowing much of which he claims was simply stolen.

President Uhuru should be serving jail term for collapsing Kenya’s economy with debts most of which he stole Kaluma wrote.

Yet the MP was equally quick to credit the current administration for pulling the country back from the edge of default.

Kenya escaped default because of the genius of President William Ruto and our people’s love and sacrifice for country patriotism he declared capping the message with a bold endorsement of the Broad Based Government initiative.

The post which quickly gained traction includes a powerful video clip of President Ruto addressing the nation on the tough economic choices his team has made since taking office in 2022.

In the footage Ruto paints a vivid picture of the crisis he inherited.

He recalls how Kenya’s currency swung dramatically from 120 to 240 to the dollar forcing an urgent rethink of fiscal policy.

We had to intentionally deal with the debt because we had to pull back from continuous borrowing he explains gesturing emphatically.

Ruto goes on to highlight decisive interventions, including a strategic move to the international market in February 2024 that helped restructure obligations and ease pressure on domestic borrowing.

He praises the team that executed these reforms noting they have done a very commendable job and managed to change the structure of the country’s debt profile.

Kaluma’s remarks underscore the deep political fault lines still running through Kenyan society.

While the Broad Based Government aims to heal divisions and foster unity critics from the previous regime see such statements as nothing short of betrayal.

Supporters however view Kaluma’s words as a refreshing dose of candour an acknowledgement that survival demanded both bold leadership at the top and quiet patriotism from ordinary citizens who absorbed the pain of austerity.

As the country continues its delicate recovery, Kaluma’s post serves as a stark reminder of how close Kenya came to the abyss and how determined leadership coupled with national sacrifice may yet chart a path to lasting stability.

In the court of public opinion the debate over who truly rescued the economy is only just beginning.
