A peaceful home suddenly became a place of deep sorrow when Anita Mugweru, a young mother, died in what police suspect was a domestic attack.
This happened on April 14, and now her family is left trying to understand what happened and deal with their immense grief.
The family's househelp explained that things had been getting tense between Anita and her husband, a captain in the Kenya Defence Forces.
She said the argument seemed to start not long after Anita got home from work. Anita had apparently just wanted to rest, but the discussion quickly turned into a very loud fight.
The househelp remembers being sent out to a shop nearby while the dispute was happening. When she came back, the argument was still going on.
Both Anita and her husband were speaking loudly, blaming each other, which seemed to reveal bigger problems in their marriage.
Anita reportedly felt very frustrated about their constant disagreements and even brought up the idea of getting their parents involved to help them sort things out.
During what would be her last moments, Anita apparently talked about how hard things were in her relationship and how she had tried to leave.
The househelp mentioned that not long after, everything went quiet suddenly, and then things turned violent.
People tried to help, but it was already too late. Anita was taken to the hospital quickly, but she was declared dead soon after getting there. The police were informed, and the person suspected of the crime was arrested later.
The day after all this happened, a picture appeared online. It was thought to be of the suspect holding his young daughter very tightly.
This added even more emotional weight to what was already a very sad story. That photo has brought about different feelings, with a lot of people worried about the child who is now right in the middle of this terrible situation.
Since then, groups that help people have spoken out against the incident. They said there had been claims of domestic violence in the marriage for some time.
These groups are now asking for quick justice and want more attention paid to keeping people safe in abusive relationships.
While the police continue their investigation, Anita’s family is still grieving. They are holding onto her memories and asking for justice for a life that ended far too soon in such a heartbreaking way.
