Police in Limuru have launched investigations into the tragic death of a woman who is believed to have taken her own life inside her home under circumstances that remain unclear.
According to preliminary reports, the woman arrived at her residence late in the evening appearing intoxicated.
Shortly after entering the house, she asked her 12-year-old daughter to bring her a pen and a piece of paper. She then wrote down the mobile phone numbers of her husband and sister.
Sources familiar with the incident say the woman also left behind a brief message in which she expressed her love for the two relatives. After writing the note, she reportedly went into her bedroom.
Moments later, the woman hanged herself using a rope that she tied to a roof truss inside the room.
The situation turned heartbreaking when her daughter discovered her shortly afterward. In a desperate attempt to save her mother, the young girl reportedly rushed to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and cut the rope. However, despite her efforts, it was already too late.
Police officers who responded to the scene documented the incident and moved the woman’s body to a nearby mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
Investigators have since begun probing the circumstances surrounding the death, including what may have driven the woman to take the drastic step.
Authorities say the case highlights a worrying rise in suicide incidents being reported across the country.
Mental health experts and government officials have repeatedly warned that economic pressures, family conflicts and untreated mental health challenges may be contributing factors in many cases.
Officials have emphasized the urgent need for stronger community support systems, counseling services and early intervention programs that can reach individuals and families before situations escalate into tragedy.
Police have urged members of the public to seek help and support whenever they experience emotional distress, noting that speaking out and accessing professional assistance can help prevent such devastating outcomes.
