Questions are emerging over the political future of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna following Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, declaring interest in the coveted senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The declaration has ignited debate within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), with opinions sharply divided on whether Sifuna, a vocal party figure, can withstand the growing challenge from the first-term legislator and media personality.
Adding fuel to the discussion, self-styled “Ghetto President” Calvince Okoth Gaucho, an ODM loyalist and former Bunge la Mwananchi activist, has boldly predicted that Jalang’o would defeat Sifuna if the two face off at the ballot.
Speaking in a viral video circulating online, Gaucho dismissed Sifuna’s popularity, arguing that political noise does not automatically translate into votes.
“Kura si nduru,” Gaucho remarked, insisting that being outspoken and visible on national platforms does not guarantee electoral success in Nairobi’s diverse voting landscape.
According to Gaucho, Jalang’o’s strength lies in his grassroots engagement and ability to connect with ordinary Nairobi residents across constituencies.
He argued that Jalang’o’s background in media and entertainment has helped him build a broad support base beyond traditional party structures.
Jalang’o recently explained that his decision to pursue the senate seat was informed by extensive consultations and interactions with Nairobians.
Speaking during an interview on Radio 47, the MP expressed confidence in his leadership abilities, stating that he believes he has what it takes to represent the capital at any level.
However, Gaucho also made a controversial claim, suggesting that financial resources play a major role in Nairobi politics, adding that he himself could defeat Jalang’o if adequately funded.
