ODM Dealt Another Huge Blow as Top Member Makes this Bold Move

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is facing fresh trouble. A party member has taken the party to court over plans to create an extra position of deputy party leader for EALA MP Winnie Odinga.

Evans Amuga, an ODM member from Kibra, filed the case at the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT). He asked for urgent orders to stop Winnie’s planned promotion. Amuga argues that the move breaks ODM rules and turns the party into a family affair.

The dispute started after Nairobi ODM delegates endorsed Winnie Odinga as a fourth deputy leader. She would work alongside Dr Oburu Oginga and other existing deputies.

Supporters say the new post will give Nairobi a stronger voice in party decisions. Winnie herself has welcomed the idea, calling ODM her true home and promising to help unite the party.

Amuga claims the plan is irregular and against the party constitution. He wants the tribunal to declare the move null and void. The PPDT has already ordered that the complaint be served to ODM leaders so they can respond. A hearing is expected soon.

This case comes at a sensitive time for ODM. The party has been dealing with internal divisions, including a rebel faction. Many see Winnie’s possible elevation as an attempt to bring different wings together. Others worry it could deepen family influence in politics.

As the tribunal prepares to hear the matter, all eyes are on ODM. Will the court allow the new post, or will it block Winnie’s rise?

The outcome could shape the party’s future direction and unity ahead of key national events.
