Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has stated that he is willing to serve as an ordinary member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), emphasizing his commitment to the party regardless of position or title.
Speaking today at Radio Citizen FM, Sifuna said, “I am ready to be a regular member of ODM.” He added that his priority is the unity and progress of the party, rather than holding leadership roles or official titles.
The senator’s remarks reflect a humble approach, acknowledging that ODM’s strength lies in the collective participation of all members, from senior leaders to ordinary supporters. Sifuna emphasized that loyalty and service to the party are more important than personal ambition.
As a prominent leader in ODM, Sifuna has been actively involved in rallies and political activities, particularly in opposing the party’s decision to cooperate with President William Ruto’s administration.
Despite this, he underscored that he values being part of the party’s grassroots structure and is committed to contributing in any capacity.
Sifuna also highlighted that serving as an ordinary member does not diminish a politician’s influence or voice. On the contrary, it allows leaders to engage closely with ordinary party members, understand their concerns, and strengthen internal democracy.
The senator’s statement comes amid ongoing debates within ODM about party loyalty, leadership roles, and the direction of its political strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.
By expressing his willingness to take a “regular member” role, Sifuna is signaling a commitment to party ideals over personal ambitions.
His remarks have been welcomed by many party supporters who see them as a demonstration of humility, dedication, and a focus on collective leadership rather than individual recognition.
