Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has faulted politicians who blame former President Uhuru Kenyatta whenever school fees are raised at the start of the year.
He said this habit has become a convenient excuse that avoids honest discussion about the real causes of rising education costs.
Nyoro argued that January fee hikes have happened across different administrations.
He noted that linking every increase to a past government misleads parents and guardians who are already struggling with the high cost of living.
He explained that school fees are influenced by many factors. These include inflation, the cost of learning materials, energy prices, salaries, and government policy decisions made over time.
According to him, focusing on one individual hides the role played by current leaders and institutions.
The MP said leaders should take responsibility instead of shifting blame. He emphasized that parents deserve clear explanations and practical solutions, not political narratives meant to score points.
Nyoro also raised concern about the pressure families face every January. Many parents must borrow money or sell assets to keep their children in school.
He warned that repeated fee increases risk pushing learners from poor households out of the education system.
