In a statement posted on X on Monday, December 15, Amisi highlighted the unusual circumstances of Jirongo’s final journey.
According to the legislator, Jirongo had left Karen at around 11:30 pm after spending time with long-time friends. These companions reportedly knew Jirongo for decades and were aware of his usual safe driving habits, even after consuming alcohol. On the surface, the night appeared ordinary.
Amisi, however, suggested that something about the journey was different. He noted that Jirongo, who was familiar with his usual routes, drove past his normal turn-off and continued along unfamiliar roads.

He navigated the Southern Bypass, Kikuyu, Limuru, and the Kinungi stretch, all known for challenging conditions, and even drove through Gilgil in the dead of night, avoiding bumps and oncoming traffic without incident.
“It was only upon reaching Naivasha that he realised he was off course and needed to turn back,” Amisi explained, noting that it was around 3:00 am—a symbolic time he described as a “shift change for devils working overnight.”
Amisi also recounted that at a petrol station, Jirongo encountered a traffic jam he had not passed earlier. While attempting to navigate it, an oncoming bus carrying 65 passengers collided with his vehicle.
According to the bus driver, the decision to ram into Jirongo’s car was intended to prevent a potential accident, as he believed Jirongo was intoxicated.
Amisi questioned the logic of the incident, asking how the drivers of the vehicles in the traffic jam were considered in the situation. He stressed that the circumstances of Jirongo’s death remain unclear and warrant closer investigation.
As the nation mourns, the family has called for a swift and thorough probe into the events leading to the former MP’s death.

Amisi’s observations highlight gaps in understanding the sequence of events, raising broader concerns about road safety and accident accountability in Kenya.
