Renown UDA senator Karungo wa Thang'wa was today thrown out of the Senate after a fierce exchange over remarks linked to ODM’s Oburu Odinga.
The confrontation erupted during a health debate but quickly shifted into political tension that halted proceedings.
Karungo claimed that Kenyans no longer feel safe anywhere in the country, arguing that insecurity affects all age groups.
His remarks drew protest from ODM senator Eddy Oketch, who rose on a point of order to question why Karungo was dragging Oburu into the debate while he was absent.
Oketch demanded that the statement be withdrawn in line with House rules.
The Speaker directed Karungo to retract the remarks, reminding him that members cannot discuss colleagues who are not present to respond.
Karungo refused, insisting he would not withdraw what he termed “obvious facts,” referring to Oburu’s recent cake incident that went viral online.
Despite several appeals from senators and repeated instructions from the Speaker, Karungo stood firm. He maintained that Oburu did not swallow the cake and declined to amend his words.
With his refusals continuing, the Speaker ordered him out of the chamber for the rest of the sitting. Karungo left without apologising, leaving the House divided and the political heat around the Oburu incident even higher.
