President William Ruto’s personal aide Farouk Kibet was allegedly chased away by angry residents while campaigning for the UDA candidate in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale shared a video on his verified X account on Tuesday, November 11, purportedly showing Kibet and Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula fleeing from residents in West Kabras.
A black car allegedly carrying Farouk is seen hurriedly being driven away as residents chase after it. Some are heard shouting the names of Seth Panyako and Savula as the leaders make their escape.
“Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, accompanied by Farouk Kibet and their candidate David Ndakwa, fleeing a hostile crowd in West Kabras!” Khalwale captioned the video.
Farouk has been pitching camp in Malava to campaign for UDA candidate David Ndakwa ahead of the upcoming parliamentary by-election.
Savula, who also serves as a deputy party leader in DAP-K, recently declared his support for Ndakwa instead of his party’s candidate, Seth Panyako.
Panyako enjoys the backing of DAP-K’s top leadership, including party leader Eugene Wamalwa and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who is also a deputy party leader in DAP-K.
Interestingly, Khalwale, who is UDA’s Majority Whip in the Senate, has also thrown his weight behind Panyako, defying his party’s official candidate in the high-stakes mini poll.
The Malava seat fell vacant following the death of MP Malulu Injendi in February.
The November 27 by-election has since turned into a fierce contest between Panyako and Ndakwa.
A victory for Ndakwa would be a major boost for the government and a setback for Natembeya’s bid to position himself as the Luhya political kingpin.
A role long dominated by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
A win for Panyako would be a political embarrassment for the ruling coalition and a blow to both Mudavadi and Wetang’ula.
