Indian Doctors Who Treated Raila Odinga Return to Kenya to Pay Final Respects

A team of doctors from Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Hospital in Kerala, India, has arrived in Kenya to pay their final respects to the late former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.

The doctors were accompanied by Raila’s daughter, Rosemary Odinga, and were warmly received in Mombasa by Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir, who also serves as ODM Deputy Party Leader.

Governor Nassir took to social media to express the significance of their visit, noting, “They are here to honour a man whose life and legacy transcended borders.

Baba’s journey was marked by courage, compassion, and a lifelong commitment to justice and humanity.”

He added that Raila’s vision for a united and hopeful Kenya continues to inspire many across the globe.

Raila Odinga had long turned to Ayurvedic therapy to manage his health. Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of medicine that focuses on balancing the body’s three components: Vata (air), Pitta (fire), and Kapha (water). Treatments typically involve herbal remedies, special diets, massage therapy, yoga, and meditation.

The late leader used Ayurveda to manage several health conditions, including high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes, which were worsened by injuries sustained during his long political career.

Similarly, Rosemary Odinga sought Ayurveda treatment in 2022 for secondary optic atrophy, a condition affecting her vision.

After four months of therapy, she regained much of her sight, drawing international attention to the benefits of this traditional treatment.

The visit of the Indian doctors serves as both a mark of respect and a celebration of the positive impact Ayurveda had on Raila and his family.

Raila passed away at the age of 80 while undergoing treatment in Kerala, leaving behind a legacy of political courage, leadership, and dedication to social justice.

Governor Nassir described the visit as a moment of global solidarity, saying that Baba’s life and work had inspired people far beyond Kenya.

He urged Kenyans to continue building the country Raila dreamed of—a nation united, just, and full of hope.

The arrival of the doctors in Kenya is a poignant reminder of Raila Odinga’s life-long journey, his embrace of holistic health practices, and the enduring respect he commanded worldwide.

His family, political allies, and admirers across Kenya are coming together to honour his memory and celebrate his legacy.
