Political analyst Prof. Herman Manyora has described the Nairobi county Senator Honourable Edwin Sifuna is an emerging threat to President William Samoei Arap Ruto towards the awaited 2027 General elections.
Manyora did not mince words: Sifuna has emerged as one of the most potent threats to President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.
Far from being just another opposition voice, Sifuna represents a movement “Sisi ni Sifuna” that has grown beyond an individual into a powerful idea capable of reshaping the opposition and mobilizing discontented Kenyans.
Manyora’s assessment comes amid heightened tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following the reported passing of its long-time leader Raila Odinga.
The party is fractured between factions: one seemingly open to cooperation with the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration through the broad-based government arrangement, and the “Linda Mwananchi” camp led by Sifuna, which remains fiercely anti-Ruto.
Sifuna, who has faced suspension attempts and disciplinary threats as ODM Secretary-General, has positioned himself as the defender of the party’s original ideals social democracy, accountability, and resistance to what he calls a “failing state.”
The Senator has been unequivocal in his mission. He has declared that the opposition’s target is not just to defeat Ruto, but to do so by a landslide margin of at least five million votes.
This, he argues, would send a strong message and set a precedent against governments that fail to listen to the people.
Sifuna has also hinted at his own presidential ambitions, stating that if the “call comes,” he will not run away from it.
He continues to rally youths for voter registration and has held massive rallies across the country, including in traditional opposition strongholds like Kisumu and Western Kenya.
Prof. Manyora explained why both the Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua camps are wary of Sifuna. The youthful senator embodies a new-generation politics that resonates with frustrated urban and youthful voters disillusioned by high living costs, perceived broken promises on hustler economics, and governance style.
Recent polls, such as those by Mizani Africa, have shown Sifuna performing strongly in hypothetical match-ups, sometimes leading or pushing Ruto into third place in certain regions if opposition votes fragment.
Manyora noted that Sifuna’s appeal transcends mere charisma; it taps into a deep desire for genuine change and generational shift in ODM and national leadership.
Former Makadara MP and boxer Ndolo. He stated that Sifuna is fit enough to face Ruto at the Presidential ballot come the year 2027 General elections.
