A 14-year-old boy from Dandora, Jackson Tito, is set to visit Parliament next week after his remarkable story of resilience and responsibility captured national attention and drew intervention from top government leaders.
Tito, who went viral after videos showed him taking care of his four younger siblings while living in extreme hardship in Nairobi’s Dandora estate, has since experienced a dramatic change in his life following state and private support.
According to Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda, Tito’s situation was first brought to the attention of President William Ruto during a State House engagement, where she highlighted the challenges the young boy and his family were facing.
The President was reportedly moved by the story and directed that the family be resettled under the Affordable Housing Programme.
The family has since been allocated a fully furnished three-bedroom house in Machakos County, marking a major shift from their previous single-room dwelling in Dandora’s Maili Saba informal settlement. Tito and his family have already relocated and are now adjusting to their new environment.
Senator Mutinda further confirmed that Tito, alongside one of his classmates, has been invited to Parliament.
During the visit, the children are expected to meet Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, in a symbolic engagement aimed at inspiring them to envision a future in leadership and public service.
The Senator also revealed that Tito has since been enrolled at Visa Oshwal Primary School in Parklands, Nairobi, where he is now continuing his education as a Grade Eight boarding student.
His four siblings have also been placed in school in Machakos, ensuring stability in their education journey.
Tito’s story first gained national attention after social media videos showed him collecting recyclables, cooking over an open fire, and caring for his siblings in difficult conditions.
His resilience has since sparked widespread public support and renewed discussions on child welfare and urban poverty in Kenya.
His upcoming visit to Parliament is expected to mark yet another milestone in a journey that has transformed from hardship to hope.
