Tensions escalated in Samburu County as residents took to the streets in protest following the recent altercation involving Governor Lati and a section of senators.
The demonstrators, many clad in bold “Sisi Ndio Lati” T-shirts, marched through major streets chanting slogans in solidarity with their county boss and demanding respect from national leaders.
The protests, which brought business operations to a temporary standstill, were largely driven by youth and local leaders who expressed outrage over what they described as an “unwarranted attack” on the governor.
Carrying placards and waving branches, the residents accused certain senators of undermining the authority of county leadership and disrespecting the people of Samburu.
“We elected our governor, and we stand with him. Nobody should come from outside and try to intimidate or embarrass him,” one protester shouted as the crowd cheered in agreement.
The phrase “Sisi Ndio Lati,” loosely translated as “We are Lati,” became the rallying call symbolizing unity and defiance.
The demonstrators also singled out Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, calling on him to respect Governor Lati and refrain from making remarks they deemed disrespectful.
Several speakers during the protests insisted that leaders should prioritize dialogue over confrontation, especially when dealing with county governments.
Local security officers were deployed to monitor the situation, though the protests remained largely peaceful. However, authorities urged residents to maintain calm and allow relevant institutions to address the matter through proper channels.
Political analysts note that the incident reflects growing tensions between county governments and national leaders, particularly over issues of authority and accountability.
As the situation unfolds, Samburu residents have made it clear that they are ready to defend their leadership, sending a strong message that local voices must be heard and respected.
