President William Ruto has come under criticism after being accused of relaunching a project in Kiharu that had already been commissioned by Ndindi Nyoro.
During a tour of Murang’a County on April 24, 2026, Ruto visited Kiharu Technical and Vocational College (TVC), where he unveiled an ICT hub and initiated the construction of student hostels, presenting them as part of the government’s investment in TVET institutions.
However, the developments sparked controversy because Nyoro had officially launched the institution a month earlier after completing a tuition block through NG-CDF funding. His earlier commissioning marked the operational start of the facility.
Tensions escalated after videos surfaced showing Nyoro’s commemorative plaque covered with tape during the president’s visit.
Locals were later seen removing the tape, revealing Nyoro’s name, fueling accusations that Ruto was taking credit for the project.
Nyoro’s absence during the visit further raised eyebrows, especially given his strained relationship with Ruto following political disagreements after the 2024 finance bill protests.
Once close allies, their fallout has seen Nyoro openly criticize government policies while pursuing independent development initiatives in his constituency.
