Lending one million shillings to someone you call a close friend feels like an act of loyalty and trust.

I never imagined that decision would turn into the most stressful chapter of my life. When she approached me, she was desperate.

She said her business had stalled and she needed urgent capital to stabilize it. She promised to repay me within six months. 

Because I believed in our friendship and had watched her struggle before, I did not hesitate. I transferred the full amount believing I was helping someone I trusted deeply.

The first few months passed smoothly. She reassured me repeatedly that business was improving and that she was working on repayment. But when the six-month mark arrived, her tone changed. She began avoiding my calls.

Messages took days to be answered. Whenever we spoke, there was always a new excuse delayed payments, unexpected expenses, sudden emergencies. I tried to remain patient, reminding myself that business can be unpredictable.

After one year, patience turned into anxiety. I had financial obligations of my own. That one million shillings was not spare change; it was money I had worked for over several years. 

What hurt most was not just the delay, but the way she started acting entitled, as if I was wrong for demanding my own money.

Our friendship quickly deteriorated. Mutual friends advised me to take legal action, but I lacked sufficient documentation to make a strong case.
