He Promised Me Forever in the Good Days, But When Life Became Hard and I Leaned on Him for Strength, He Chose Distance Over Devotion and Left Me Broken

 

I loved him with a kind of love that holds nothing back. The kind that trusts without fear, believes without doubt, and sacrifices without keeping score. 

In Nairobi, where life is already demanding and uncertain, I believed love would be the one place I could rest. I gave him my heart fully, convinced that we were building something that hardship could not destroy.

I adjusted my dreams to fit our plans. I postponed opportunities, made compromises, and shaped my future around the idea of “us.” 

I believed that love meant standing together no matter what came our way. When things were good, the promises flowed easily. We spoke about forever as if it was guaranteed, as if effort and commitment would always be equal.

Then life became hard.

Challenges came quietly at first—financial pressure, emotional stress, uncertainty about the future. I didn’t panic. I leaned in harder, believing that this was the moment love was supposed to prove itself.

 I needed reassurance, patience, and support. Instead, I was met with distance. Conversations became shorter. Affection faded. And slowly, the person I trusted most began to disappear.

When he finally walked away, it felt unreal. I wasn’t just losing a relationship; I was losing the future I had sacrificed so much to protect.
