Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has accused certain politicians of bankrolling criminal groups to spark unrest at public and political events across Kenya.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Murkomen alleged that some leaders finance gangs to disrupt gatherings, creating chaos for political advantage.
He claimed that rising cases of mob justice, which have reportedly led to the deaths of more than 500 people, are partly linked to gang activity allegedly encouraged or protected by political figures.
According to Murkomen, some politicians intentionally incite disorder to portray themselves as victims and shift blame onto security agencies.
The Interior CS warned that the government would not tolerate the revival or sponsorship of outlawed groups. He noted that while some gangs are aligned with specific politicians, others are used to undermine rivals, further deepening tensions.
His remarks come amid increasing reports of violence during rallies and by-elections, with incidents involving hired disruptors resulting in injuries and property damage. Opposition leaders, however, have accused state actors of turning a blind eye to such groups.
Murkomen urged political leaders to abandon the use of hired muscle and intimidation tactics, assuring the public that security agencies are prepared to maintain order during upcoming political activities.
