Kileleshwa MCA and social media commentator Robert Alai has criticized Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna following his move to the courts after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) removed him as Secretary General.
Alai drew comparisons with Homa Bay Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga, who recently resigned from his position after months of disagreements with Governor Gladys Wanga.
According to Alai, Magwanga demonstrated responsibility by stepping down, while he suggested that Sifuna’s approach of seeking legal recourse shows an unwillingness to take accountability.
“The conmen can’t resign,” Alai said, implying that some politicians are quick to fight in court but slow to accept their party’s decisions or step aside when necessary. His remarks have reignited debates on political leadership and ethical conduct in Kenya.
Sifuna’s move to court came after ODM’s National Executive Committee removed him from the Secretary General position, a decision that has been a subject of heated discussions within the party. Sifuna argued that the party’s move was irregular and sought to challenge the decision legally.
Alai’s reaction highlights a growing public expectation for leaders to prioritize service over personal interests.
Many observers have noted that while resigning might be seen as an admission of defeat, it can also be interpreted as a display of integrity, especially when internal disagreements disrupt governance.
