Former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has stirred political debate after offering a striking prediction about the future of President William Ruto.
Speaking during an interview on JKLive, Kuria suggested that a potential loss for Ruto in the 2027 General Election would not mark the end of his political journey but could instead usher in a more intense and consequential phase.
Kuria indicated that the politically influential Mount Kenya region is likely to make a decisive stand by April next year, signaling uncertainty about its continued support for the president.
His remarks point to shifting dynamics within a region widely viewed as critical to electoral success in Kenya.
He further argued that a one-term presidency for Ruto could transform him into a formidable opposition figure.
According to Kuria, Ruto’s deep understanding of government systems, institutional networks, and political strategy would give him a significant edge outside power.
He claimed that in such a scenario, Ruto could become one of the most influential opposition leaders in the country’s history, potentially surpassing figures such as Raila Odinga in terms of impact.
Kuria also predicted that Ruto would not retreat from politics if defeated. Instead, he said the president would likely regroup and mount a comeback bid in 2032, driven by a strong determination to reclaim leadership.
He used the term “kisirani” to describe the motivation Ruto might carry—implying a personal resolve to prove a point after a loss.
The remarks have added a new dimension to ongoing political discussions, suggesting that even in defeat, Ruto could remain a powerful force shaping Kenya’s political landscape.
