“Refuses the Job but Runs to Court?” — Jalang'o Sends Strong Message Over Edwin Sifuna Row

A fresh political storm is brewing within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor (Jalang'o) publicly questioned the actions of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in the ongoing party leadership dispute.

Speaking amid escalating tensions in the party, Jalang’o said Kenyan politics can be “very interesting,” pointing to what he described as a contradiction in Sifuna’s position regarding ODM leadership.

“Politics is very interesting. Someone refuses to be Oburu’s SG, yet goes to court to stop his removal,” Jalang’o remarked, in comments that quickly stirred debate among party supporters and political observers.

The remarks come as a leadership wrangle intensifies in ODM following moves to remove Sifuna from the powerful Secretary General position. Party leaders allied to Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga—who currently leads the party—have pushed for changes within the party’s top ranks.

Sifuna, however, has been openly defiant. In recent statements, he insisted he would not serve as Secretary General under Oburu’s leadership, signaling deep divisions within the party hierarchy.

Despite that stance, the senator moved to the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal to challenge the legality of the process used to remove him from office.

The tribunal temporarily halted the move and urged both sides to resolve the dispute through internal party mechanisms.

Jalang’o’s comments appear to reflect frustration from a section of ODM leaders who believe the legal battle contradicts Sifuna’s earlier declarations.

Political analysts say the unfolding drama could expose deeper rifts within the party as factions battle for influence following major leadership changes in recent months.

For now, the dispute remains unresolved, with the tribunal pushing the warring sides to settle the matter internally.

But as Jalang’o’s remarks show, the political temperature inside ODM is rising—and the fight over the Secretary General’s office may be far from over.
